The School of Business and Administration (ESCE/IPS) of the Polytechnic Institute of Setubal, organizes the 4th International Conference on Quality Innovation and Sustainability – ICQIS2023 – in Setubal, Portugal.

The conference will take place in Setubal and online, on May 2023.

The main aim of the ICQIS2023 is the dissemination of knowledge and the exchange of good practices among researchers and professionals in these domains.

The ICQIS Conferences have been a meeting forum for researchers and interested professionals on Quality and Innovation, with special focus on Sustainability.

Submission and Publication

  • Full papers or abstracts are requested for the evaluation process.
  • Full papers or abstracts have to be submitted until March, 1st. Full papers and abstracts received after this date will not be evaluated and included in the Conference Program.
  • At least one author of the paper has to register to attend the conference.
  • Each registration includes at most two papers. One additional paper can be submitted with an additional cost of 50 euros.
  • Abstracts should not exceed 300 words and full papers should be between 8 to 12 pages. Abstracts or full papers exceeding the limit will be rejected. Full papers should strictly adhere to the formatting rules for Springer Proceedings and be uploaded in PDF format (without including the authors details). Selected abstracts will appear in the Conference Book of Abstracts.
  • All submissions must follow the Springer Templates. The abstracts and full papers should be written in English.
  • All submissions will be double-blind and peer reviewed and evaluated based on originality, technical and/or research content/depth, correctness, relevance to the conference, contributions, and readability. Abstracts will only be published in the abstract book. Full papers, depending on their quality, may also be published in indexed conference proceedings.
  • Abstracts and full papers will be accepted on the understanding that the original submitted manuscript has not been copyrighted, published, or accepted for presentation at any other conference.
  • To grant publication, upon acceptance of a paper or abstract, at least one of the authors must complete the conference registration and the corresponding payment. Each registration includes one or two papers. One additional paper from registered authors will cost 50 euros.
  • Papers will be accepted with the honour pledge of own authorship and originality. Considering that the submitted manuscript has not been copyrighted, published, or accepted for presentation at any other conference, book, or journal. With full awareness that the practice of plagiarism and self-plagiarism constitute an academic offense.
  • The approved abstracts will be published in a ISBN book of proceedings.
  • The payment must be done after the acceptance of the submitted articles.

Keynote Speaker - Matevž Obrecht - Bio

Matevž Obrecht is an associate professor in the field of sustainable supply chain management and vice-dean for education on Faculty of Logistics, University of Maribor. His field of expertise covers environmental protection, renewable energy policy and supply, sustainable logistics, e-mobility, greening company's processes and integrating life cycle thinking and eco-design principles into sustainable supply chain management. He participated in different interenational projects such as RECOAUD (environmental management in Russian companies), VALORGASs (valorisation of household wastes for biogas production), EDECON (promotion and dissemination of eco-design) and ERASMUS+ (internationally recognized master study on logistics). His research work was awarded twice with “The award for contribution to sustainable development of Slovenia”.


Speaker - Gilberto Santos - Bio

Gilberto Santos is an Assistant Professor at Polytechnic Institute of Cavado e Ave. He is a member of IEA - Institute of Applied Electronics (Vigo University) from 2012. He has participated in about 20 R&D projects. Gilberto participates as a speaker in several national and international conferences, and he is currently author of several publications in Industrial Engineering, namely, Innovation, Quality Management, Product Development and Integrated Management Systems (IMS)–QES (quality, environment and safety) (books, papers in international and national journals). He is member of the research team of several IMS - QES research projects and supervises Master and PhD thesis, as well, reviewer of international journals (Editorial Review Board - TQM Journal; International Journal of Engineering and Industrial management (Portugal); Revista Produção e Desenvolvimento/Journal Production and Development (Brasil); The International Journal of Engineering Technology and Scientific Innovation (India); Quality, Innovation, Prosperity (Slovakia). Sustainability (MDPI) and Standards (MDPI).

The conference will take place at the School of Business Administration of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal.
